आयुष्य होमम्

Ayushya Homa

For long life, health and vitality · Ayur Devata · Mrityunjaya

The Ayushya Homa is performed for longevity, good health and overall well-being — most auspiciously on birthdays. 'Ayushya' means lifespan; this homa invokes the deities of life to bless the person with a long, healthy and purposeful life.

🎂Celebrate a birthday with an Ayushya Homa

Sacred Mantra

Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha · Om Aayur-Dehi · Om Hreem Hroum Aayushyaaya Namah

What it feels like

Picture the morning of your birthday — the homa-kund glowing, ghee poured with every whispered line of the Ayushya Sukta and the deathless Mrityunjaya mantra, the air thick with the fragrance of herbs. You feel, almost physically, a shield of light and long life settling around you for the year to come.

What happens inside the Ayushya Homa

Performed in the authentic VDS Vaidic paddhati — Sankalpa, Ganapati Puja, Kalasha Sthapana, Punyahavachanam, the consecration of Agni, the deity's offerings, and the final Purnahuti.

  1. 1

    Sankalpa

The yajamana (sponsor) takes a vow stating the intention — long life and health for the named person — with their birth star and gotra.

  2. 2

    Ganapati & Punyahavachanam

Ganapati is invoked to remove obstacles, and the space and participants are purified with mantras and holy water.

  3. 3

    Invocation of Agni

The sacred fire is kindled and consecrated; Agni is the divine messenger who carries the offerings to the deities.

  4. 4

    Ayushya Sukta & offerings

Ghee, herbs and havan samagri are offered into the fire to the chanting of the Ayushya Sukta and Mrityunjaya mantra, invoking vitality and protection from untimely affliction.

  5. 5

    Purnahuti & Ashirvada

The final full offering completes the homa; the person receives the sanctified ash (vibhuti) and the blessings of the pandits.

Significance

Birthdays in the Vedic view are not merely social occasions but spiritually significant turning points. The Ayushya Homa channels the subtle energies of the day to strengthen the life-force (prana), clear negative influences and renew one's vitality for the year ahead. It is especially recommended for children, the elderly and anyone recovering from illness.

Benefits

  • Blesses long life and sustained vitality
  • Strengthens health and the immune system
  • Wards off untimely fear and affliction
  • An auspicious way to celebrate a birthday

Best time to perform

On birthdays (by birth nakshatra), or any auspicious day for health and longevity.
