Lotus seeds and ghee fall into the fire as the Sri Sukta is sung, and the air seems to turn golden. The Maha Lakshmi Homa is less a request for wealth than an invitation — for grace, abundance and auspiciousness to come and make their home with you.
What happens inside the Maha Lakshmi Homa
Performed in the authentic VDS Vaidic paddhati — Sankalpa, Ganapati Puja, Kalasha Sthapana, Punyahavachanam, the consecration of Agni, the deity's offerings, and the final Purnahuti.

Intention for prosperity is set.

Lakshmi invocation
Maha Lakshmi is invoked and worshipped with the Ashtottara and the eight forms (Ashta Lakshmi).

Sri Sukta Homa
The Sri Sukta is chanted as offerings of ghee, lotus seeds and kamala are made into Agni.

Kumkum Archana
Kumkum is offered with the thousand names of the Goddess.

Purnahuti & Aarti
The homa concludes with the final offering and lamp.
Significance
Lakshmi is not only the goddess of money but of all auspiciousness — health, harmony, beauty and grace. The Sri Sukta is the Veda's hymn to abundance. Performed as a homa, it removes obstacles to prosperity and invites Lakshmi to reside in the home and workplace.
