About this ceremony

Sacred Mantra

Om Saravana Bhavaaya Namah

What it feels like

The Subramanya Homa calls on ever-youthful Muruga, vel in hand, commander of courage. Offered for career, for valour, for relief from Naga and Mangal dosha, it leaves the devotee feeling — simply, unmistakably — braver.

What happens inside the Subramanya (Muruga) Homa

Performed in the authentic VDS Vaidic paddhati — Sankalpa, Ganapati Puja, Kalasha Sthapana, Punyahavachanam, the consecration of Agni, the deity's offerings, and the final Purnahuti.

  1. 1

    Sankalpa & Ganapati Puja

The intention for courage and success is set.

  2. 2

    Subramanya invocation

Lord Muruga, holding the vel (divine spear), is invoked and worshipped.

  3. 3

    Subramanya Homa

Offerings are made into Agni with the Saravana Bhava mantra.

  4. 4

    Naga / Mangal shanti

Where relevant, the serpent deities and Mars are pacified for dosha relief.

  5. 5

    Purnahuti & Aarti

The final offering completes the homa.

Significance

Lord Subramanya, the ever-youthful son of Shiva, embodies courage, leadership and the triumph of light over darkness. His homa bestows valour and success in one's profession, removes obstacles, and is the traditional remedy for Naga dosha and the marriage-and-career difficulties of Mangal dosha.

Benefits

  • Bestows courage, energy and leadership
  • Success and growth in career
  • Relief from Naga dosha and Mangal dosha
  • Removes persistent obstacles

Best time to perform
