About this ceremony

Sacred Mantra

Om Dum Durgaayai Namah · Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaayai Vichche

What it feels like

When the Devi Mahatmyam is chanted and the flames rise red, you understand why the Mother is called Shakti. The Durga Homa fills you with a quiet, surprising courage — the certainty that whatever stands against you will not stand for long.

What happens inside the Durga Homa

Performed in the authentic VDS Vaidic paddhati — Sankalpa, Ganapati Puja, Kalasha Sthapana, Punyahavachanam, the consecration of Agni, the deity's offerings, and the final Purnahuti.

  1. 1

    Sankalpa & Ganapati Puja

Intention for strength and victory is set.

  2. 2

    Durga invocation

Goddess Durga is invoked and worshipped with the Ashtottara.

  3. 3

    Durga Saptashati Parayanam

Verses of the Devi Mahatmyam (Chandi) are chanted, recounting the Mother's victory over the asuras.

  4. 4

    Homa offerings

Ghee and red flowers are offered into Agni with the Durga mantra.

  5. 5

    Purnahuti & Aarti

The homa concludes with the final offering.

Significance

Benefits

  • Bestows physical and mental strength
  • Removes disputes, enemies and litigation
  • Grants victory over obstacles
  • Protects the family from harm

Best time to perform

During Navratri, on Ashtami, or when facing conflict.
