About this ceremony

Sacred Mantra

Om Aim Hreem Shreem Shree Maatre Namah

What it feels like

A thousand names of the Divine Mother, sung one after another with kumkum offered at her feet — the Lalitha Sahasranama is devotion made of sound. By the final name the heart is quiet and full, as if the Mother herself had been listening all along.

What happens inside the Lalitha Sahasranama Parayanam

Performed in the authentic VDS Vaidic paddhati — Sankalpa, Ganapati Puja, Kalasha Sthapana, Punyahavachanam, the consecration of Agni, the deity's offerings, and the final Purnahuti.

  1. 1

    Sankalpa & Ganapati Puja

Intention is set for the chanting.

  2. 2

    Kalasha & Devi sthapana

The Divine Mother is invoked in a kalasha or image.

  3. 3

    Sahasranama Parayanam

The thousand names are chanted melodiously, often with kumkum archana for each name.

  4. 4

    Kumkum Archana

Kumkum is offered at the feet of the Goddess with the names.

  5. 5

    Aarti & prasad

Lamps are waved and prasad distributed.

Significance

Each of the thousand names reveals a quality of the Divine Mother — her beauty, power, compassion and cosmic role. Chanting them attunes the heart to her grace. The Lalitha Sahasranama is sought for devotion, family wellbeing, and the removal of obstacles to happiness and abundance.
