Simantonnayanam

सीमन्तोन्नयनम्

Baby shower of the Vedas · 7th month of pregnancy

The story

In the seventh month, Simantonnayanam honours the expectant mother. Her husband gently parts her hair to the sound of Veda mantras, and she is kept joyful, calm and cared for. The teaching is profound: the child in the womb absorbs every emotion the mother feels, so her peace becomes the child's first inheritance.

How it is done

The husband parts the mother's hair to Veda mantras; elders bless mother and child.

Significance

The mother is honoured and her mind kept joyful and serene — the child in the womb absorbs every emotion she experiences.
